  Dart & Billiard Info:

darts tips and tricks

Below is a list of a few of the do's and don'ts when playing darts.

Do:

  • Inspect all three darts for wear and tear prior to each game. Care should be taken to ensure that shafts are tightly screwed to tips and that each tip is straight.
  • Position feet and legs in a solid, comfortable and relaxed stance.
  • Hold the dart straight.
  • Avoid any non-essential motion from your throw.
  • Open the hand all at once in a singular motion allowing the dart to traveling a straight line as opposed to rolling to one side.
  • Remember to follow through. When the dart is released, the arm extends directly toward the dartboard. This may be the most important tip for attaining an accurate throw.
  • Balance is key. The best players may raise their rear foot off the floor slightly, but they always maintain their balance. Some beginner players lean too far forward or raise a foot off the floor - thus, losing their balance and ruining the shot.
  • Watch others. You can learn a lot by watching both good and bad dart players.

Don’t:

  • Lean over the throw line in an effort to shorten the distance to the board.
  • Lunge or lift back foot off the floor to get a “harder throw” this takes you off balance.
  • Hold the dart sideways or pointing up or down, or any direction besides forward.
  • Throw the dart as you would throw a baseball.
  • Spin the dart as you release it.
